Dan looking to ‘shake’ things up at Blackburn Market

The owner of a new milkshake bar in Blackburn’s new £8m Market is promising to bring the best shakes in the North West to Blackburn and will be hoping the people of the town respond by supporting local business.

Dan Place, 27, has opened his stall ‘Milkshake’ alongside another new business, Press Panini.

Dan already owns three other milkshake bars in the region, in Bolton, Bury and Manchester’s Arndale Centre.

He said: “We’re a long established business and the leading milkshake retailer in the North West. Lots of businesses have started up like ours since we did but I think we’re the originals and the best.

“The idea for the business stems from when I went travelling. I would go to these ice cream bars and just think how well they’d go down back home. When I got back, I thought I’d give it a go and just took it from there.”

Milkshake is famed for producing 180 different flavours of shake from Kinder Bueno, Oreo and Skittles to Parma violets, Dime Bar and Wham Bar.

Dan added: “We use special American blenders and produce own ice cream which we’re very proud of. It’s the secret to producing a very thick and tasty milkshake.”

The two businesses have been open for several weeks now in the market. Press Panini sells hot and cold sandwiches and Italian toasted sandwiches. Similar to Milkshake they have lots of different flavours.

Dan will be hoping people of Blackburn respond to his new business and agree to ‘Shop Local’. This is one of the themes of Blackburn with Darwen Council’s Your Call campaign which aims to encourage people to work with the Council to make things better in the borough.

Every penny you spend outside your community is a penny less to support your local economy. Support your local market and the businesses who trade there.

Dan added: “Blackburn Market’s perfect for what we want to do. It was easy to set up and start trading. It’s a good set-up and now I’m here I’m looking forward to a successful stay.”
