Market traders plan to help Haiti

Market traders at Blackburn market are planning a special event to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

They’re planning a grand tombola on Friday, February 5, in the market avenue and are appealing for donations of prizes to raffle. All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Haiti appeal.

Anyone who can help is asked to either drop prizes at the market office or contact Trish Mellor, Asifa Satvilker or Kelly Hartigan on (01254) 52911.

* Staff at Blackburn with Darwen Council have raised over £1500 for the DEC Haiti appeal by holding a dress down day.

According to charities involved in the appeal, 20 per cent of the capital Port-au-Prince has been destroyed in a country where 80 per cent of people were already living below the poverty line.
